  • Dirk Leavesley, CFP PFP RRC

    Father, Husband and Community Advocate!

Decades of experience coaching your children, & our youth in a
    multi-age capacity.

Proud previous Maples community centre board member,
    convenor and basketball coach.

Why I'm Running

This community has been home to me since I was three years old. I grew up in the Maples, and over the past 20 years, have stayed actively involved in our community, particularly through basketball, coaching, and volunteering.

I’ve also had the pleasure of mentoring hundreds of kids through sport, an experience that has strengthened my commitment to supporting young people and helping them thrive.

Today, as a parent of two children attending school in our community, that connection has become even more important to me.

Bridging the gap between our schools, families and community.

My Priorities

1. STRONG EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS

Support manageable class sizes, strong teacher-to-student ratios and better resources for diverse learning needs.

Strengthen pathways to skilled trades, college, university and future career opportunities.

2. RESPONSIBLE SPENDING & TAXATION

Support balanced, responsible budgets while protecting educational quality and essential classroom resources.

Advocate for sustainable provincial funding to reduce pressure on local school taxes.

3. PLANNING FOR GROWTH

Advocate for new schools and expanded capacity to meet the needs of our rapidly growing communities.

Plan ahead for enrollment, facilities and infrastructure before overcrowding becomes a larger problem.

4. A STRONGER VOICE FOR FAMILIES

Improve communication and give families meaningful opportunities to be heard before important decisions are made.

Be an accessible trustee who listens, responds, and follows through on community concerns.

Trusted by Many

Greg MacFarlane
School Trustee, Seven Oaks - Ward 2

I am proud to endorse Dirk Leavesley for the position of Seven Oaks School Trustee.

I have had the privilege of working alongside Dirk in the Maples basketball program for well over a decade.
Over those years, I have watched him volunteer countless hours with our JV Boys, Varsity Boys, and JV Girls basketball teams, giving his time and energy simply because he believes in our students and our school community.

What makes Dirk stand out is that his commitment goes far beyond basketball.

Dirk genuinely cares about kids. He expects a lot from them, sets high standards, and challenges them to become better — but he does so by treating every student with respect, patience, and compassion.
He understands that young people need adults who will hold them accountable while also making them feel supported and valued.

I have also seen firsthand the respect Dirk has for the people he works alongside.
He treats coaches, students, parents, and colleagues with the same level of dignity and consideration.
He is dependable, hardworking, and willing to put in the time necessary to make things better.

That commitment is exactly what I believe a school trustee should bring to the position.

A trustee needs to understand that schools are about people first. They need to listen, they need to care about the experiences of students and families, and they need to be willing to work hard on behalf of their community.
Dirk has demonstrated those qualities consistently through his years of service at Maples.

For more than a decade, Dirk has chosen to give back to our school community without expecting anything in return.
He has been there in the gym, on the sidelines, and behind the scenes — contributing his time because he believes our students deserve
people who are willing to invest in them.

That tells me a great deal about the kind of trustee he would be.

I have no hesitation in recommending Dirk Leavesley for Seven Oaks School Trustee.
I believe he would bring integrity, dedication, high standards, compassion, and a genuine student-first perspective to the role.

Most importantly, I know that when Dirk commits to something, he shows up and he cares.

I am proud to support his candidacy and strongly encourage the Seven Oaks community to consider Dirk Leavesley for School Trustee.

Sincerely,
Scott Kirkpatrick Teacher & Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Maples Collegiate
